The Daedream mentors and students are working hard to prepare for the 2024 show, which will be presented on May 31st and June 1st at Career High School. The show is titled, “The Key” and it’s about the future, where a community of Earthlings try to pass goodwill to the aliens they meet. The aliens misinterpret the mission, though, and make it into an all-out competition to see “which community is better,” until the kids step in!
Jevaughan Henry is the assistant supervisor and dance director for Daedream. Jevaughn said: “Daedream is a family to me. I have been in it since third grade, and I wanted to be a mentor when I was younger. I am a director now, so it’s really nice being that person for children, just like my mentors were for me.” Jevaughn is now 22, is a college student and works at Amazon as well as at Daedream.
“For ‘The Key’, we will be doing mostly hip-hop and contemporary dances. The music will correlate to the show. One of the songs is ‘Touch the Sky’ by Kanye West,” Jevaughan added.
There are more than 80 performers enrolled in Daedream. Daedream was created by Ms. Kim Francis, a former Mauro-Sheridan teacher and current CEO, and it has been going on for 36 years.
MASH NEWS interviewed kids who did dancing and singing.
Israel D’Costa, a student in Mrs. Bitterman’s class said, “The show is going to be on May 31 and June 1, 2024.” He does tap dancing and other dances. He added, “I do dance because I am very high energy.”
Zachary Alicea, a Daedream veteran, answered, “My favorite style of music is hip-hop. I don’t have a favorite style of music to sing because I like to sing a lot of different styles.” His favorite song to sing at Daedream is ‘I Hear a Symphony.’ He also said, “I’m interested in singing because I really like singing.’’
